Power Electric wheelchairs

Power wheelchairs are most commonly used by people with quadriplegia, spinal lesions, head injuries, and other conditions that limit all body movement. People who do have the use of their arms are prescribed a manual wheelchair and generally a power wheelchair will not be covered by insurance.

Most power wheelchairs have some kind of a joystick or controller used to power the wheelchair. The joystick is sometimes as simple as front-back, left-right, but other times it also has tilt, lean back, raise-up and other options.

Some power wheelchairs are specialized for either indoor use or outdoor use. If you buy an indoor chair and try to use it outdoors, there is a potential that the frame could crack, the front forks could bend, and the wheelchair motors could burn up.
